The CFMA of MA is excited to be joined by Conor Flanagan and Bob Alperin of Citrin Cooperman for a 2024 Construction Tax Update. Conor and Bob will discuss a variety of tax updates including the direction of tax policy in 2025 and beyond, R&D tax credits and Sec. 174 R&D cost capitalization, lookback interest, state pass-through entity taxes, inflation reduction act- tax incentives, and MA tax law updates. Conor Flanagan:
Conor Flanagan is a partner in Citrin Cooperman’s Boston Metro office with 13 years of experience. Conor provides audit and tax experience to his clients, mainly in the construction industry. He advises general contractors and sub-contractors with a focus on pass-through entities. Previously, Conor worked at Kirkland Albrecht and Fredrickson, P.C. ("KAF"), which joined Citrin Cooperman in 2016.
Conor holds a Bachelor of Arts from Saint Anselm College. He is a Certified Public Accountant in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Conor is an avid sports fan, enjoys spending time with his family, and staying active.
Bob Alperin:
Bob is a partner in Citrin Cooperman’s National Tax Office and is the firm’s Federal Credits & Incentives Leader. Bob has been specializing in R&D for the past 20 years with extensive experience leading R&D Credit Studies, assisting clients with IRS and state audits and controversy related to R&D Credits, reviewing R&D Credits for financial statement and ASC 740 purposes, identifying and documenting uncertain tax positions, and assisting clients with the new Sec. 174 R&D expense capitalization requirements.
Bob has a broad-based tax background that has spanned over 30 years. Prior to specializing in R&D, Bob was a corporate tax generalist focused on tax compliance, tax consulting, and tax provisions. Bob has worked with privately and publicly held companies from start-ups to Fortune 500 across all industries, including significant experience in the technology (life science, hardware, software, semiconductor), manufacturing (industrial products, equipment, consumer products, food and beverage), finance (insurance, asset management, banking), and construction and engineering industries. Bob has spent most of his career working with middle market clients.
Prior to Citrin Cooperman, Bob was a partner at a Big Four firm for 15 years where he led the Northeast R&D Tax Credit Practice.
Bob holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Tulane University and a Master of Science in Taxation from Northeastern University. He is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Massachusetts.
Bob enjoys motor boating, striped bass fishing, golfing, exercising, reading literary non-fiction, and spending time with his wife and two daughters.
