Controller/CFO

Job Description

We are a well-established real estate development and management firm. We are seeking an experienced accounting and finance professional to join our team. This position requires a high energy individual with strong management and interpersonal skills along with the ability to adapt to new challenges and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment. The company is currently in a growth mode and the Controller/CFO will play a pivotal role in the financial leadership of the company as well as future growth. The Controller/CFO will be responsible for managing all aspects of the company’s finances, including overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations for the firm’s development projects, properties, and multiple entities. These entities include construction and development, property management, as well as the corporate books. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented and have a hands-on management approach to the day-to-day business operations. The candidate should also have the ability to manage a team and work closely with the executive team to drive the company’s growth and financial success.

 

Key Tasks:

  • Responsible for all aspects of the accounting processes (GL/AR/AP), cash management, payroll, budgeting and year-end reviews for multiple real estate entities as well as the corporate books and construction and maintenance entity records.
  • Prepare timely, complete and accurate financial information, and reporting analysis for management and investors
  • Provide leadership to accounting team through objective goal setting, delegation and communication
  • Maintain weekly cash position reports and cash flow projections
  • Oversee the annual budget process
  • Participate in the preparation of workpapers for the annual review process with CPA firm in preparation of tax returns
  • Develop and maintain financial controls in accordance with company procedures
  • Prepare quarterly reporting to investors and on-time payment of distributions
  • Maintain Lender and Banking relationships at both the cash management level as well as prepare timely reporting and review of loan compliance
  • Actively participate in the onboarding of new acquisitions, debt refinances and offloading of dispositions
  • Review LLC agreements, loan documents leases and other documents as may be required

Additional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Able to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment managing several projects simultaneously
  • Comfortable handling a large volume of transactional data while maintaining accurate books and records for all entities
  • Able to work effectively and efficiently as a team player or independently while prioritizing projects to ensure timely deliverables with the ability to balance shifting priorities
  • Real estate experience with exceptional organization, attention to detail and the ability to understand the “big picture”
  • Strong excel skills; communication skills; comfortable interacting and communicating with all levels of the organization
  • Minimum 10 years Accounting Experience
  • Minimum 5 years Real Estate Specific Accounting / Finance Experience
  • CPA Strongly Preferred

Project Accountant

Job Duties:

Perform all accounting tasks related to Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Job Cost, and General Ledger for individual projects including AP acquiring and coding, check preparation, lien waiver requests, expense report review and approval, Owner requisition and AR collection
Assist with assembling records for reporting and metrics
Build an effective and collaborative relationship with Operations team; maintain independence when assessing financial control and Project Management performance
Work as a team to successfully manage project finances and forecasts to eliminate risk to gross margin and positive cash flow
Assist Operations with collection and review of subcontractor documentation and compliance to mitigate legal risk
Support COO with review and understanding of Owner contract and Subcontract terms and language
Provide support to Operations team relating to Subcontractor insurance coverage
Serve as primary contact for Owner and Subcontractor on project cost and financial status
Perform miscellaneous weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year‐end tasks as needed (account reconciliations, audit work‐papers, sales and use tax filings, other miscellaneous tasks)
Manage project‐specific labor cost / oversee process of billing and tracking labor on projects
Train Operations new hires on Accounting procedures; contribute to the development of SOPs and process improvement
Become a super‐user of Accounting software; gain a solid working knowledge of Project Management software

Project Accountant

Turner Brothers, LLC

 

The Project Accountant will report to the Controller and is responsible for overseeing financial operations related to all projects, including cash management, accounts payable, contract billings, and job cost reporting.

 

 

Job Duties:

Review and approve Vendor/Subcontractor invoices related to a project and ensure proper cost coding.
Oversee subcontractor compliance as outlined in contracts.
Investigate variances and discrepancies related to contract billing, budget-to- actual reports, time approval, and unbilled project costs.
Close out project accounts upon project completion.
Act as Liaison between Project management team and Accounting to facilitate requested information and reporting.
Assist with implementation of ERP automation tools and cross-platform integrations.
Compile information for internal controller and CFO as requested.
Maintain project and general ledger accounting in Viewpoint Spectrum.
Manage project-related records, including contracts and change orders.
Prepare various financial reports, analysis and communicate recommendations for project performance improvements.

 

Requirements:
A bachelor's degree in accounting, business or engineering, with detailed knowledge of project contracts and change order documents. Must have excellent communication and writing skills, and at least three years of experience in project accounting.

Must have experience and knowledge of Viewpoint Spectrum software.
