04/11/2017- Apps for Construction-Exploring the Five Jobsite Workflows and Where Mobile Fits In

For the April 11, 2017 chapter meeting the CFMA of Massachusetts welcomed Rob McKinney, the “ConAppGuru”, from JBKnowledge.

Under the banner of “Apps for Construction-Exploring the Five Jobsite Workflows and Where Mobile Fits In”, Rob shared decades of experiences implementing mobile technology on construction projects and discussed the key workflows that contractors should focus on when it comes to implementing mobile technologies on a job site. Rob took the gathering through the process of improving workflows in the field and how to test and select apps for safety, timekeeping, taking photos and videos, filing daily reports and sharing plans.

The use of mobile technology in our industry is only going to accelerate. Automating our day to day processes will lead to improved safety, workflow efficiencies, increased collaboration and significant savings.

03/28/2017- Practical and Effective Enterprise Risk Management

On March the 28th the Massachusetts Chapter enjoyed a very informative presentation by Bill Noonan, Executive Vice President and North American Practice Leader for Willis,Towers,Watson on the topic of “Practical and Effective Enterprise Risk.”

Risk Management in the construction business typically falls under the pervue of the CFM and is a critical function in an environment of very high risk, very low margins, where companies are slow to change and adapt and in an industry that operates contrary to normal business assumptions.

Contractors are running full steam ahead but with more stringent owner requirements, labor shortages and compressed timelines risk exposures are increasing exponentially. Forward thinking companies are using risk management as an offensive strategy.
