Ryan Pitts, Medal of Honor Recipient
Ryan Pitts is a New England native, and enlisted in the Army in 2003 at 17. He reported to the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vicenza, Italy after completing basic and airborne training. Ryan served from 2003 until 2009, deploying twice to Afghanistan in support of Operations Enduring Freedom VI and VIII for a combined 27 months.
Ryan was wounded on July 13th, 2008 near the end of his second deployment. He was eventually evacuated to Walter Reed Army Medical center where he spent more than a year recovering before being medically discharged in 2009. His return home was due to the heroic actions and sacrifices of paratroopers Sergio Abad, Jonathan Ayers, Jason Bogar, Jonathan Brostrom, Israel Garcia, Jason Hovater, Matthew Phillips, Pruitt Rainey, and Gunnar Zwilling, and their brothers. He was awarded the Medal of Honor on July 21, 2014.
Ryan attended the University of New Hampshire after returning home, and graduated with a B.A. in Business. He and his family reside back home in southern New Hampshire.
