The presentation will survey issues related to contractors’ rights and risks with respect to securing payment on construction projects. It will provide a brief “refresher course” on common payment terms and tools (contract terms, bonds, liens, etc.) while calling attention to recent updates and developments that bear on these issues.
Jon Elder is a partner in Hinckley Allen’s Construction and Public Contracts group. He has over a decade of experience in representing general contractors, owners, businesses, and individuals in a wide range of construction matters. He regularly advises clients in connection with all types of construction claims, including claims related to defective work, delay, scope disputes, and payment rights. He also counsels contractors with respect to state and federal bidding regulations involving DBE/MBE participation, False Claim liability, and general day-to-day risk-avoidance.
